Panda Peace is a painting inspired by Tai Shan (‘Giant Panda’) a panda at the National Zoo in Washington DC. Val visits the Zoo often and is quite fond of these cuddly animals. Tai Shan was born in 2005 and is the first baby panda at the National Zoo who survived the longest. He returned to China in 2010 and is now living in a protected forest.

On a visit to the Santa Monica Pier on the California coast, Val enjoyed seeing this antique carousel located on the Pier. The colors on the horses match the old time feel of the carousel.

This painting was made using a snapshot of Val’s nephew Abe, who was wading in the Chester Creek. Abe is a big Pittsburg Steelers fan and was wearing a shirt showing Ben Roethlisberger’s number 1.

This painting was named Maggie as a nickname to the beautiful magnolia as well as Val’s Mom, whose name was Margaret. The Butterscotch background was selected as it was one of Val’s Dad’s favorite candies.

While working in downtown Wilmington, Val would take lunch time strolls along the beautiful Brandywine River. This is how the painting got its name. The first ‘Lunchtime Promenade’ original painting was given as a gift to a good friend of Val’s so this painting was named number two.
